These thirteen dolls showcase historical minority women and their vocations, offering a sneak peek into the diverse array represented in our museum. Each woman’s doll embodies their image or performed characters, exhibited in various forms such as action figures, ceramic statues, paper, plush, vinyl, and a variety of artifacts and memorabilia.

  • ACTIVIST

  • Rosa Parks

    The catalyst of the Montgomery bus Boycott. She is known as the “Mother of Civil Rights”.

  • ARTIST

    The artist’s work includes architecture, ceramics, digital art, drawings, mixed media, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and textiles.

  • Frida Kahlo

    Artist, activist, and feminist icon, she persevered and gained artistic recognition for her unique style and perspective.

  • ATHLETES

    A person trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requires physical strength, agility, or stamina.

  • Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas

    An American gymnast who became the first African American in Olympic history to win the individual all-around event at the 2012 Summer Games.

  • AUTHOR & POETS

    A person who creates written works.

  • Maya Angelou

    An American author and poet. She rose to prominence by publishing “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” in 1969. She was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010 by President Barack Obama.

  • Educator

    Being an educator is about promoting individual growth and development by creating an environment where students can cultivate their unique learning styles in settings that cater to their needs.

  • Mary Mcleod Bethune

    The daughter of formerly enslaved parents, Mary Jane McLeod Bethune, became one of the most essential Black educators. The college she founded set educational standards for today’s Black colleges.

  • Entertainer

    A person who entertains others, such as Film, TV, Radio, and Social Media as a professional singer, actor, dancer, musician, magician, host, and comedian.

  • Lucy Lui

    An American actress. She has received several accolades, including a Critics’ Choice Television Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Seoul International Drama Award, in addition to a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award.

  • Entrepreneur

    A fashion entrepreneur is a person who has possession of a fashion enterprise, venture, or idea.

  • Kimora Lee Simmons

    An American model, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. In 1999, she launched the global lifestyle brand Baby Phat to massive success worldwide.

  • Fashion

    Fashion is a term used to describe the creation of clothing, footwear, accessories, cosmetics, and jewelry of different cultural aesthetics that depict distinctive ways of dressing, self-expression, and group belonging.

  • Cynthia Bailey

    An American model, reality television personality, and actress. Born and raised in Alabama, she moved to New York City at the age of 18 to pursue a modeling career.

  • Health & Medicine

    Medicine and Health encompasses the study of disease prevention and cure and the understanding and investigation of physical and mental well-being.

  • Mary Mahoney, RN

    Mary Eliza Mahoney was the first African American to study and work as a professionally trained nurse in the United States, graduating in 1879.

  • Kamila Harris

    Kamala Harris is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and incumbent vice president of the United States under President Joe Biden.

  • STEM

    STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. These four fields emphasize innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. They make up a popular and fast-growing industry.

  • Katherine Johnson

    She graduated college at eighteen with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and French. NASA hired her to work as a human computer, and she calculated the trajectory of NASA’s first American-manned flight into space.
